In 544 he studied under St. Mobhi at the school of Glasnevin, with St. Kieran of Clonmacnoise and St. Comgall of Bangor.
The club is named after Saint Canice, who was born in 516AD in Cianacta Glinne Geimin, which is modern day Dungiven.
The earliest recorded seat of the bishops was at Aghaboe, and this appears to have been the principal church of the kingdom by the eighth century when the life of Saint Cainnech of Aghaboe was composed.
