Buddleja 'Glasnevin' is an old hybrid cultivar raised by John Dalrymple, 13th Earl of Stair, Lochinch Castle, putatively from a crossing of Buddleja davidii with Buddleja fallowiana, the same parents of the better-known cultivar 'Lochinch'.
In 544 he studied under St. Mobhi at the school of Glasnevin, with St. Kieran of Clonmacnoise and St. Comgall of Bangor.

Ball had left Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in August 1903 to work as Assistant and later Foreman at the Irish National Botanic Gardens Glasnevin, Dublin.
His Kew Guild Journal obituary in 1968 mentions prewar plant hunting trips to the Dolomites and a notable visit to Bulgaria as a guest of King Ferdinand in the company of Kew contemporary C.F. Ball of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin in Dublin.

According to information passed on to playwright Ulick O'Connor, an anti-Treaty IRA volunteer named Owen Donnelly of Glasnevin was responsible for the killing of Hales.
