Early in September the remainder of the corps was transferred to Camp Meade, near Middletown, Pennsylvania.
During the period of May 1898 until Mar 1899, he commanded the 2nd Division of the Second Corps of the US Army at Camp Alger Virginia, Thoroughfare Gap Virginia, Camp Meade Pennsylvania, and Camp Fornance South Carolina.
Fluent in the French language, he served in 1917–1918 as an instructor in French to officers of the 316th regiment at Camp Meade, Maryland.
