County Carlow by-election, 1908

Kavanagh's candidature for the by-election caused by the death of John Hammond, was endorsed by the Catholic Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin Dr. Patrick Foley (former president of Carlow College), due to Kavanagh's support for a Catholic University of Ireland.

Daniel William Cahill

He was sent to Carlow College as a lay student, and in 1816 entered Maynooth, where he became proficient in natural philosophy and languages.

Glenn B. Hamm

Hamm taught art at Carlow College from 1963 to 1964, West Virginia University from 1965 to 1969 and Virginia Commonwealth University until his death from Lou Gehrig's Disease in 1980.

James Warren Doyle

In July 1813, Doyle was appointed to a professorship at Carlow College, holding the Chair of Rhetoric and from 1814, the Professorship of Theology.

Thomas Joseph Power

He was educated at Carlow College as a lay student from 1885 to 1889, and went to Maynooth College to Study for the priesthood, where he was invited to write an ode on the college's centenary; however, he left priestly formation due to ill health.
