The thefts were initially reported to the Garda Síochána, however the Banks senior management did not know about the problem until February 2008 after an internal audit uncovered the theft and the Bank did not advise the Data Protection Commissioner and the Central Bank of Ireland until mid-April 2008.
The street is the location of many banks such as AIB, Ulster Bank and the Central Bank of Ireland.
In addition, Mr. Brennan’s son, Joseph Brennan was an Irish Civil Servant who became Secretary of the Department of Finance, Chairman of the Currency Commission from 1927 until 1943 and was governor of the Central Bank of Ireland from 1943 to 1953.
On 18 June 2009, Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan TD for the Irish Government established a single fully integrated regulatory institution, the Central Bank of Ireland.
