Gandhi Maidan

Several movements were launched on the Patna Lawns during the Indian freedom struggle, the most important being the Champaran movement and the Quit India movement of 1942.

The pedestal includes inscriptions and images highlighting milestones in Gandhi's life including the Dandi March in 1930, Quit India Movement in 1942, Champaran Satyagraha in 1917, and an image of Charkha symbolizing the call for self-rule by the Father of the Nation.


Badri Narain Sinha

Sinha served as Superintendent of Police, Champaran (1958–63) and Bhagalpur (1965-68), Superintendent of Railway Police, Muzaffarpur (1968–70) and Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi (1970–71), Deputy Inspector-General of Police and Member Secretary, Bihar Police Manual Revision Committee in June, 1971, Deputy Inspector - General of Police, Central Range, Patna (1974–77) and later D.I.G. of Police, Criminal Investigation Department till his death in harness on 7 November 1979.

Champaran and Kheda Satyagraha

In Champaran, a district in state of Bihar, tens of thousands of landless serfs, indentured laborers and poor farmers were forced to grow indigo and other cash crops instead of the food crops which was necessary for their survival.

Without food and without money, the situation was growing progressively unlivable and the peasants in Champaran revolted against conditions in indigo plant cultivation in 1914 (at Pipra) and in 1916 at (Turkaulia).

Dinesh Bhramar

Besides the poetry works, Bhramar has been associated with various literary movements and organized several series of Kavi sammelan and Mushaira and other literary events for last forty years in and around Champaran district.

Non-cooperation movement

Mahatma Gandhi had shown a similar movement in South Africa and in 1917-18 in Champaran, Bihar and Kheda, Gujarat that the only way to earn the respect and attention of British officials was to actively resist government activities through civil disobedience.

Now in Champaran and Kheda in 1918 he led impoverished farmers, mired in social evils like unhygienic conditions, domestic violence, discrimination, oppression of women and untouchability.
