Hooghly district

Chandannagar is an important and nice town of Hooghly and famous for Jagaddhatri puja and awesome lighting.

Chandannagar became the base of the French and the city remained under their control from 1816 to 1950.

Battle of Chandannagar

In 1757 war broke out between France and Great Britain, and Colonel Robert Clive of the British East India Company and Admiral Charles Watson of the Royal Navy bombarded and captured Chandannagar on 23 March 1757.
