In 1938, the Metropolitan Government entrusted the French Establishments in India, a region shaken by unrest in the textile mills, to Louis Bonvin who successfully restored social peace and earned the trust of his constituents in the five regions of French India: Pondichéry, Kârikâl, Mahé, Yanaon and Chandernagore.

Coup d'état of Yanaon

On 13 April 1954, Dadala arrived in Yanam and proceeded to neighbouring Kakinada (a town in the adjacent Indian state of Andhra Pradesh) the next day.

After transfer of Northern Circars to the English, Yanam came under the province of Peddapuram in the jurisdiction of Sri Raja Vatsavaya Kala Thimma Jagapathi Bahadhoor (Timma Raja).

Yanam acquired considerable importance during the occupation of the Northern Circars by the French.
