Bury was the son of John Bury, son of William Bury and the Honourable Jane Moore, daughter of John Moore, 1st Baron Moore and sister of Charles Moore, 1st Earl of Charleville.
Bury was the only son of Charles Bury, 1st Earl of Charleville, by Catherine Maria Dawson, daughter of Thomas Townley Dawson.

Lord Charleville married Harriet Charlotte Beaujolais Campbell, daughter of John Campbell of Shawfield and Islay and sister of Walter Frederick Campbell, in Florence in 1821.
