James Wickes Taylor (1819–1893) was born in Starkey, New York, and, after his formal education, studied law under his father.
Two ships in the United States Navy have been named USS Wickes, in honor of Lambert Wickes.
Phase Two of Westwood Cross was completed in April 2010, following the relocation of the Wickes store, which formerly stood beside the bus station.
Wickes embarked on a joint venture in South Africa in 1994 with Federated Blaikie, which saw six Wickes branded stores open in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Near Wickes is the Boggs Springs Youth Encampment of the American Baptist Association, a retreat of Missionary Baptist churches.
