Charles McNeill Gray (1807–1885), American politician, Mayor of Chicago, 1853–1854
On 20 October 1861 the grave of a European, supposed to be Charles Gray, was found near Cooper Creek.
He started his public political career in 1978 by running for a State Representative seat in South Oklahoma City (then District 91), losing in the Democratic runoff election to Charles Gray, who won the general election.

Subsequent works were a bust of Christchurch Hospital benefactor Hyam Marks, a bust of Christchurch Mayor Charles Gray (1853–1918) commissioned by Christchurch City Council, a shearer for the British Empire Exhibition in 1924–1925, and plaster work at the Civic Theatre, next to the then civic offices in Manchester Street.
