He began his music career at Western Springs College with a group of friends in forming the Low Down Dirty Blues Band, which went on to change their name to Supergroove.
Ness is also the father of New Zealand hip hop artist Che Fu.

He has produced songs for many New Zealand artists including Che Fu, Dei Hamo, PNC, Dave Dobbyn, AKA Brown and the Deceptikonz as well as for himself.
Che Fu is also another New Zealand popular artist of Niuean descent, his father Tigilau Ness is full blooded Niuean from Mutalau.
They played alongside international acts including Ben Harper, Lee Scratch Perry, The Mad Professor, as well as local bands such as Fat Freddys Drop, Salmonella Dub and Che Fu.
In 1880, he exhibited at Turin Giorno che fu, and at the 1883 Exhibition of Rome, he exhibited a Veduta of Gressoney.
In 2008, Ness featured with his son Che Fu in the documentary Children of the Revolution about the children of political activists in New Zealand which also included Māori activist Tame Iti, Māori Party Member of Parliament Hone Harawira, Green Party Member of Parliament Sue Bradford and anti-apartheid leader John Minto.
