In 2011 General Motors announced that it would integrate Powermat's wireless charging technology into certain vehicles in its 2013 Chevrolet Volt line, and would also invest in the private company.
Researchers from LG Chem (the makers of the battery in the Chevrolet Volt), Stanford University and Hanyang University have been researching ways in which this technology could improve electric cars by making the battery smaller.
