Under Article 94(1), the Governor-General appoints the Chief Justice on the recommendation of the Prime Minister after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition.
Completed in the 1860s, its owner Sir William Doyle was Chief Justice of the Bahamas and the first Bahamian to be knighted.

Sir Leonard Joseph Knowles, CBE (15 March 1916 - 23 September 1999) was the first Chief Justice of The Bahamas
