5 unusual facts about Chimney Point

Due to increased danger for General Burgoyne's position, General Maclean was ordered, on 20 October, to march with the 31st Regiment and his own battalion of the Royal Highland Emigrants, to Chimney Point, Vermont, but during November was ordered to Quebec.

In 1609, Frenchman Samuel de Champlain became the first known European to explore this region and the lake that was later named for him; he traveled at least as far south as the Chimney Point area.

In 1731, the French decided to firmly establish their presence on Lake Champlain and block the lake route from the British colonies to Canada by building a fort at the strategic narrows between Chimney Point and Crown Point, New York.
