They were the runners up in two other finals, first at the Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open losing to Venus Williams & Serena Williams and secondly at the China Open losing to Chuang & Govortsova.
He won two matches in attempts to reach both the Australian Goldfields Open and German Masters respectively and had his best set of results in qualifying for the China Open, where he beat Adam Wicheard, Liu Song and Gerard Greene, before losing to Ricky Walden 3–5 in the final round.
His form tailed off after this, but he had a strong run in the 2009 China Open, defeating Mark Allen, Ali Carter and Graeme Dott to reach his first career semi-final.
He has since refereed many more Ranking finals including the Seniors Championship, Welsh Open Championship, Australian Goldfields Open, German Masters, UK Championship, Irish Masters, Wembley Masters, Malta Cup, China Masters, China Open, Thailand Open, British Open, Grand Prix, Bahrain Snooker Championship, World Open and four World Championship Finals at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield in 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2010.
Later in the Chinese Taipei Open and Li Ning China Open, Hsieh again lost 17-21 21-17 20-22 to Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk and lost 15-21 19-21 to China's Lin Dan in the second round.
His personal best jump is 2.27 metres, achieved at the China Open in May 2008 at Beijing’s National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, to break the 13-year-old record of 2.24m set by Loo Kum Zee in the 1995 Chiang Mai SEA Games.
The day after his acquittal The Sun alleged that Hann had agreed to lose his opening match against Ken Doherty at the China Open in return for large amounts of money.
Together with partner Tang Jinhua she also reached the final at the Li-Ning China Open Super Series Premier 2011.
