The manuscript's association with Chirk in North Wales is not known to go back beyond the 16th century.

Hughes of Gwerclas

He died in 1754 and from this time the Hughes of Gwerclas resided at Pen y Clawdd, thought to be in the vicinity of Chirk in Flintshire.

Sir Watkin wins by 1352 to 933, but the sheriff, a member of the Salusbury family, disallows 594 of his votes and returns a cousin of Salusbury, John Myddelton of Chirk.

Chirk Bank

The small town of Chirk is to the north, over the border in Wales, with the B5070 road connecting the two settlements via a bridge (Chirk Bridge) over the River Ceiriog.

Trevor was the son of Sir Edward Trevor of Rostrevor, County Down, and of Brynkinalt Hall, near Chirk in Denbighshire, by his marriage to Rose Ussher, a daughter of Henry Ussher (ca. 1550–1613), Archbishop of Armagh.

(She Died in childberth aged 22 in 1675.He sent to Weston for her portrait so that the sculptor, Bushell,in Chester could make a monument to her.The monument is in Chirk churchyard,the portraite never came back to Weston and is still missing!)and secondly Charlotte Bridgeman, daughter of Sir Orlando Bridgeman, 1st Baronet.
