Bentley is divorced and is the mother of Canadian music producer/audio engineer DJ Swivel (born Jordan Young in 1984).

Bentley started as a general assignment reporter, and then assigned to Toronto City Hall and later Queen's Park.
He is the co-anchor for CTV News at noon and 6:00 p.m. since April 2001, originally alongside Christine Bentley; he currently co-hosts with Michelle Dubé.
