Coal Harbour

The coal was low-grade, but its occurrence in clays similar to porcelain-making clays of the English Midlands led to the staking of what is known as the Brickmaker's Claim by the Three Greenhorns.

Howard Hughes, who resided in the top two floors of the Bayshore Inn (Westin Bayshore) for 5 months and 28 days in the 1970s (6 months would have triggered Canadian residency and taxation issues for Mr. Hughes).

Pacific Command Water Transport Company, R.C.A.S.C.

Upon completion of the communication link, the Water Transport Company was assigned with re-supplying freight and personnel to remote RCAF radar stations on the west coast of British Columbia, basing ships at Coal Harbour, Port Alberni, and Prince Rupert.

The Melville

The Melville is a skyscraper located at 1189 Melville Street in Downtown Vancouver's Coal Harbour neighbourhood.


Francis Brockton

After the discovery, which Richards reported to Governor James Douglas, Richards named the area of the find Coal Harbour and named Brockton Point, at the east end of what is now Stanley Park in Vancouver, after the engineer.

HMCS Discovery

Originally based at the Stanley Park Barracks, in 1944 Discovery moved to its current location on Deadman's Island, in Coal Harbour, adjacent to Stanley Park.

Urban Fare

A second location in the Coal Harbour neighbourhood opened in 2007, and a third opened in 2008 in the Living Shangri-La tower in downtown Vancouver.
