In April 1802, Tyler was the Federalist candidate for Congress in New York's 16th congressional district but was defeated by Dem.

Consequently, Colonel Charles Lynch made an agreement with Bastrop for an interest in this purchase.

General James Clinton arrived in 1784 when he came up the Mohawk River with a surveying party, for the purpose of establishing the boundary line between New York and Pennsylvania.

In 1783, he became a surveyor and school teacher at Caughnawaga on the Mohawk River.
