The proceeds of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance have helped support Community Hospice of Northeast Florida with total contributions of over $1.5 million through 2008.

Businessman and car collector Bill Warner, a photographer and writer for Road & Track magazine since 1971, founded the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in 1996 at the urging of other northeast Florida auto enthusiasts who wanted a classic car show in Florida like the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California.
It is particularly known for its International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors (Concours international de jeunes chefs d'orchestre) created in 1951, which is organized every two years and rewarded famous conductors such as Seiji Ozawa (1959), Michel Plasson (1962), Zdeněk Mácal (1965), Jesús López-Cobos (1968), Sylvain Cambreling (1974) or Yutaka Sado (1989), who began their international careers with its first prize.
He went on to become Singapore's hope against 23 other international culinary talents in the finals of the Bocuse d'Or Concours Mondial de la Cuisine 2009 Culinary contest - equivalent to the World Cup of football - in Lyon, France.
He has also received awards and recognition from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Masterprize, the American Composers Orchestra, ASCAP, the K. Serocki Competition in Poland, the Zoltan Kodaly and Francois d'Albert Concours Internationales de Composition, and a concerto commission for clarinettist Richard Stoltzman.
In 1976 Dominique Bagouet had his first great success with his performance of Chanson de Nuit, winning the Concours de Bagnolet.
