On 7 August 2011 against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the opening weekend of the 2011–12 Bundesliga season, Giefer was concussed and stated that he doesn't remember anything about the last month.

Ian Laperrière

Laperrière was hit in the face near the end of a New Jersey power play, resulting in an orbital injury, and a mild concussion.
