The two major towns served by the paper are Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath, including news from and around the surrounding parishes of Cuckfield, Lindfield, Hassocks, Chailey, and as far north as Forest Row.
The holotype, BMNH R2559 (incorrectly given by Owen as BMNH R2556), was found near Cuckfield in layers of the Tunbridge Wells Sand Formation dating from the late Valanginian.
The parish of St Richard was created in 1939 from parts of the parishes of Cuckfield, Lindfield and St Wilfrid's Church.
