Colby-Cushman decided she wanted to do burlesque when, while living in Chicago with her family, she attended a burlesque performance starring comedienne Margaret Cho and legendary dancer Satan's Angel.

Arthur Cushman McGiffert (March 4, 1861 - 1933), American theologian, was born in Sauquoit, New York, the son of a Presbyterian clergyman of Scots-Irish descent.

Like Larry Carr, he took a store in a location whose main attraction was being located along a highway (at the time, South Cushman was the northern terminus of the Richardson Highway), and parlayed the store into a local retail and real estate empire.
Cushman was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-sixth and to the five succeeding Congresses and served from March 4, 1899, until his death in New York City July 6, 1909.
