After the East German Volkspolizei took control of West-Staaken on 1 February 1951 the checkpoint was moved up more eastwards.

No. 72 was sent to Madrid for demonstration flights piloted by Howard Pixton, and when these were completed Pixton was sent to Germany, where he flew No. 74 at Döberitz to demonstrate its capabilities to the German army.
On 15 March he was the commander of the Infantry School Döberitz (which was moved to Grafenwöhr in early March) until 24 April.
