unusual facts about DB Class V 200.1

DB Class V 200

Following the electrification of many main lines the V 200 was used increasingly for commuter trains and freight trains, but the Hamburg-Westerland, Hamburg-Lübeck-Copenhagen and Munich-Lindau lines still saw the V 200 hauling express trains.

This were Russian made diesel-electric locomotives, nicknamed Taigatrommel (Taiga tundra and trommel as drums in English i.e. Tundra Drums ), referring to their typical noise and a cynical reference to the Siberian landscape of their Russian homeland.

Prussian P 10

A total of 260 of these locomotives were ultimately constructed and they worked primarily on the Main-Weser-Bahn between Frankfurt and Kassel, as well as the Eifel region, the Black Forest network until their replacement by Class 221 diesel locomotives, and the Gäubahn (Stuttgart–Singen).
