In subsequent years Allen contributed largely to the ‘Morning Post,’ and in an anonymous article, called ‘Characters of Principal Men of the American Rebellion,’ which appeared there on 29 June 1779, he vehemently attacked the character of a gentleman named Daniel Dulany, formerly secretary of Maryland.

Like many sons of wealthy Maryland families, Dulany was sent to England to be educated, at Eton College and Clare College, Cambridge.
