63rd Virginia Infantry

After it became a part of the Army of Tennessee, the 63rd served under, at different times, James Longstreet, Patrick Cleburne, Nathan Bedford Forrest, William J. Hardee, Stephen D. Lee, and Daniel Harvey Hill.

The Army of Tennessee, temporarily commanded by Lieutenant General Alexander P. Stewart, divided into three corps temporarily commanded by William B. Bate, Daniel H. Hill, and William W. Loring.

Daniel Harvey Hill, Jr.

Hill, Jr. received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Davidson College in 1880 and 1886, respectively.

Hill was born in 1859 in Davidson, NC to Confederate General Daniel Harvey Hill.

Rains was wounded during the Battle of Seven Pines, and was singled out by Maj. Gen. Daniel Harvey Hill for a successful flanking maneuver that turned the tide of battle in favor of the Confederates.
