He is a Major in the Air National Guard and serves as flight surgeon, originally with an F-15 squadron in the Massachusetts Air National Guard and currently with an F-16 squadron in the 144th Fighter Wing, California Air National Guard, with whom he has deployed to Nicaragua and Saudi Arabia.

He completed the Harvard combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Boston Children's Hospital, before returning to Stanford for clinical fellowship training in hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplantation and a post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Irving Weissman.
In 2009 Eva Brenner and John Kosmalla were supported by Natalie Nguyen-Ton, Christopher Brenner and Daniel Kraft, as well as by a new craftsmen team.
