They were a death metal band by the name of Black Death whose members were Gylve Nagell, Ivar Enger, and Anders Risberget.
Prior the release of North From Here the band had developed their playing skills further and established a more personal sound, drawing influence from a number of extreme metal bands including Atheist, Nocturnus, Bathory and the first release (Soulside Journey) by Darkthrone, but also rock bands such as Faith No More and Primus.
Though according themselves other stylistic titles the bands Slicing Grandpa, Eric's Trip, Bone Awl, Nailed Down, Sonic Youth's early work, much of Darkthrone's work (particularly Transilvanian Hunger and F.O.A.D.), and the more "raw" forms of punk especially the crust punk scene would exemplify some or all of No-Fi's aesthetic.
Ted Skjellum (born 4 March 1972 in Kolbotn, Oppegård), also known by the stage names Nocturno Culto, Nocturno or Kveldulv, is a Norwegian musician best known as the vocalist, lead guitarist, and partial bassist (shared with Fenriz) of the influential black metal band Darkthrone.
Initially, Weakling was mainly noted for featuring guitarist Josh Smith of The Fucking Champs (fellow Champ Tim Green served as producer), but a recent reissue of their material has brought their work some more attention, and the album has been hailed in some circles, and by musicians including Fenriz of Darkthrone, as a masterpiece.
