Batman; The Caped Crusader is an action adventure game developed by Special FX Software (Jonathan Smith, Zach Townsend, Charles Davies, and Keith Tinman) and published by Ocean Software for the 8-bit home computers such as the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 and by Data East for other platforms such as the Apple II, Commodore Amiga and PC in 1988.
This game was designed by two people who actually worked on pinball games: Mark Sprenger (artist for such games as 1984's Space Shuttle and 1986's High Speed) and Brian L. Schmidt (composer for Black Knight 2000 and various pinball games by Data East Pinball/Sega Pinball (now Stern Pinball, Inc.).
862 F.2d 204, 9 U.S.P.Q.2d (BNA) 1322 (9th Cir. 1988) is a court case in which Data East, a video game manufacturer, contended that Epyx, a competing video game manufacturer, licensed and distributed a video game, International Karate, that infringed on the copyright of a video game developed by Data East, Karate Champ.
