This section opened in 1992 and built (like all of its sections) to Interstate Highway standards (containing no traffic signals, crossroads, or businesses), was the first highway on the East Coast to be marked with metric measurements.
Delaware Route 1 does not run past either campus, but rather is situated within 5–15 minutes of it.

When built, the road, like Delaware Route 1 and I-95, will charge a toll to cover the costs of building the new bypass, which is heavily used by trucks between Philadelphia and the Washington, D.C. metro areas.
