In 1998, the McCarroll family sold the paper to what became Trinity Mirror, who sold it to Local Press Ltd, a 3i holding company, in January 2004.
The paper covers the Inishowen peninsula area in the north of the county and competes against the Inish Times and the Inishowen edition of the Derry Journal.
O'Doherty now writes an opinion-based column, the "Doc's Prescription", in the sport section one of the city's local papers, the Derry Journal.
