Allied submarines in the Pacific War

East Sparta, Ohio

In 1854, Benjamin Silliman, a science professor at Yale University, was the first American to fractionate petroleum by distillation.

SKYY vodka

The distillation plant is in Pekin, Illinois and is currently powered by natural gas, but United States Environmental Protection Agency approval has been requested to convert the plant to burn coal.

Whisky

In 1831, Aeneas Coffey patented the Coffey still, allowing for cheaper and more efficient distillation of whisky.
