The dog rose is the official flower of the city and its stylised form is related to the Tudor rose.
Although the flowers resemble wild roses (and despite its common name), Christmas rose does not belong to the rose family (Rosaceae).
In autumn the slopes turn red with fruits of hawthorn (Crataegus) and dog rose (Rosa canina), with leaves of gatten-tree (Euonymus europaeus) and barberry (Berberis vulgaris); they turn motley with apricot and ash tree colour gamma.
