Anna Poray-Wybranowska nee Chościak Popiel, was born into a noble family bearing the Sulima coat of arms in Ściborzyce, Little Poland, soon after Poland's return to independence.
Unlike most of the neighbouring villages, which before the Operation Vistula (1940s) were largely inhabited by Rusyns' populations (recently called "Lemkos" to avoid inappropriate associating them with any Russian proveniences), throughout the history, Dominikowice and Kobylanka constituted almost homogenously Polish settlement.

The village belongs to one of the oldest rural settlements in the area, having been endowed by the king on a Polish knight, Dominik Pieniążek (see: Jan Chryzostom Pieniążek, from Odrowąż family(see Odrowąż coat of arms) in 1291.
The AGH University of Science and Technology (29,800 students) is considered to be the best technical university in Poland.

It lies at the crossroads of major international routes linking Dresden with Kiev, and Gdańsk with Budapest.
As for administrative divisions, the region borders on the Lesser Poland and Subcarpathian voivodeships in Poland in the north, Zakarpattia Oblast of Ukraine in the east, Košice Region in the south, Banská Bystrica Region in the south-west and Žilina Region in the west.
