Archibald Hamilton, 9th Duke of Hamilton

Between 1786 and 1814 his horses won seven runnings of the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster.

Doncaster railway station

There are no ticket barriers in operation at this station; however on Race Days (at Doncaster Racecourse), manual ticket checks are in operation in the subway.


Bob's Return

In the Coalite-sponsored St Leger at Doncaster Racecourse on 11 September, Bob's Return started 3/1 favourite ahead of the Henry Cecil-trained Armiger.

Channel 4 Racing

Major events covered by Channel 4 have included the 1,000 Guineas and 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket (throughout its history), the St Leger at Doncaster (throughout its history) and the Cheltenham Festival (since 1995; previously it was covered by the BBC).

La Tendresse

La Tendresse was brought back to Europe and in September 1960 she was offered for sale at Doncaster where she was bought for 4,800 guineas by the Irish trainer Paddy Prendergast, acting on behalf of Pansy Parker Poe.

In the St Leger at Doncaster Racecourse on 10 September, Sea Moon, ridden by Olivier Peslier, was made 2/1 favourite ahead of the 1000 Guineas winner Blue Bunting.
