Opened on July 4, 1890, the track flourished and became known as the "Newmarket of America."

Guillot's greatest successes came in 1994 when he won the Grand Critérium at Longchamp on Goldmark and, just two weeks later, the Champion Stakes at Newmarket, riding Dernier Empereur.


Channel 4 Racing

Major events covered by Channel 4 have included the 1,000 Guineas and 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket (throughout its history), the St Leger at Doncaster (throughout its history) and the Cheltenham Festival (since 1995; previously it was covered by the BBC).
