In the early 17th century, noted Ming art historian Dong Qichang classified Jing Hao and Guan Tong as the two founders of the Northern Landscape style, juxtaposed against the two founders of the southern school, Dong Yuan and Juran, who developed their theories at the same time.
His 2012 show Objects in Pieces at the Newman Popiashvili gallery in New York included oil paintings derived from collages made from cutting up and combining his own images with those by Jackson Pollock, Paul Cézanne and Dong Qichang.
Its size was rarely enlarged for hundreds of years until Dong Qichang, a Chinese painter, calligrapher of the later period of the Ming Dynasty, built several more ancient architectural complex on its original basis.
