While living in New York, Hans Richter directed two feature films, Dreams That Money Can Buy and 8x8: A Chess Sonata in collaboration with Max Ernst, Cocteau, Paul Bowles, Fernand Léger, Alexander Calder, Duchamp, and others, which was partially filmed on the lawn of his summer house in Southbury, Connecticut.

He appears as a Guitarist on a few albums by the group but most notably Co-Produced the 2005 re-scoring of Hans Richter (artist)’s 1947 surrealist film Dreams That Money Can Buy for DVD release through the British Film Institute on which he is also credited with Composition and Performance.

A young Sobotka appeared as "The Girl" in Man Ray's segment "Ruth, Roses and Revolvers" in the groundbreaking avant-garde film by Hans Richter, Dreams That Money Can Buy (1946).
