Afterwards, three castles were built in Echizen by the "Fuchū Three" -- Fuwa Mitsuharu, Sassa Narimasa, and Maeda Toshiie.

Nagachika built Echizen Ōno Castle in 1576 before he was transferred to Takayama Castle in 1586, and from this point on, the castle switched between lords many times.
Fleeing the Ashikaga, Nitta brought the Princes away from Yoshino, where the Southern Court of Go-Daigo was based, towards Tsuruga in Echizen.
After the resignation of the last shōgun the Meiji government took control over the medical institutions of the Tokugawa regime and assigned Sagara Chian and Iwasa Jun from Echizen to draft a programm for the new system of medical care and education.
He followed this in 1962 with Kiga kaikyô (Starvation Straits, 1962) which was made into a film under the same name by Tomu Uchida (A Fugitive from the Past, 1965), and Kiri to kage (Fog and Shadows, 1963), then novels dealing with women's concerns, including Gobanchô Yûgiri-rô (The Pavilion of the Evening Mist at Gobanchô, 1963) and Echizen takeningyô (The Bamboo Dolls of Echizen, 1964).
