Econfina Creek, a small river in Jackson, Washington and Bay Counties, Florida
One of the earliest settlers was William Gainer, who was with Andrew Jackson's forces when they passed through the area on their way to Pensacola in 1818 (during the First Seminole War).
It is now found in the Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers and four tributaries, and Econfina Creek.
Historically, this mussel was very abundant in the Flint River in Georgia, the Chattahoochee River in Georgia and Alabama, the Chipola River in Alabama and Florida, the Ochlockonee River in Georgia and Florida, the Apalachicola River and Suwanee/Santa Fe Rivers in Florida, and Econfina Creek in Florida.
