4 unusual facts about Eddie Doucette


Eddie Doucette

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has announced that Doucette will receive the Curt Gowdy Media Award in the Electronic Media category during the 2013 Hall of Fame induction ceremony in September.

Along with Jon McGlocklin, Doucette co-founded the MACC Fund in 1976 after his two-year old son, Brett, was diagnosed with cancer.

Hook shot

The greater distance and resulting higher arc on the shot led to the name skyhook, which was coined during Abdul-Jabbar's tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks by the team's radio announcer, Eddie Doucette, who felt that "that hook was so high that it was coming out of the sky".

Ralph Lawler

There were only two seasons when Lawler did not serve as the team's primary play-by-play broadcaster-1981-82 (Jerry Gross) and 1984-85 (Eddie Doucette)- before becoming the full-time voice once again in 1985-86.
