Castlefield Congregational Chapel

The building originally opened as a Congregational chapel in 1858, and was designed by the local architect Edward Walters.

Edward Walters

Free Trade Hall (1855), in Peter Street, Italian Renaissance Revival style.

His practice was based at Manchester from 1839, where his most notable work was the Free Trade Hall, referred to as the "noblest monument in the Cinquecento style in England" by Nikolaus Pevsner.

Milligan and Forbes Warehouse

The style is similar and perhaps based on the warehouses created by Edward Walters in Manchester around this time.
