Using an instrumented DeHavilland Dove (DH-104), introductory, two-week performance and flying qualities flight test courses were taught for Edwards AFB, California; Patuxent River NAS, Maryland; Eglin AFB, Florida; the Naval Post-Graduate School, California; Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio; and the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment, Cold Lake, Canada.
The airspace is primarily used by military aircraft from Nellis AFB, Edwards AFB, NAWS China Lake, and NAS Lemoore for high and low altitude mission training.
At Rogers Dry Lake on Edwards AFB, the vehicle, driven by Barrett, made on December 17, 1979, an attempt to break the sound barrier.
Once those test flights were completed, further flight tests were to be conducted from Edwards AFB to Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana, to gather more complete data on aircraft heating and engine performance at higher speeds and altitudes.
