He returned to Australia as Assistant coach to Kenny Lowe until the end of the 2014 season, after the club had a mid season crisis in which the players revolted leading to the sacking of Alistair Edwards.
In February 2013, Naven was promoted to the senior coaching staff at Glory, as assistant to new coach and former Glory team mate, Alistair Edwards.
Following the sacking of Alistair Edwards as Perth Glory's head coach, Lowe was appointed as the caretaker coach.
His playing time was greatly restricted until Ferguson stood down in February and Perth Glory appointed Alistair Edwards as his replacement.
Many fans expected the team to build on the success of 1990 in the following season but the failure to retain the services of players like Borhan Abu Samah, Abbas Saad and Alistair Edwards proved to be costly.
