Birgit Püve started out as a writing journalist for the Estonian weekly newspaper Eesti Ekspress.

First Prize in Portrait category of the Estonian Press Photo 2013 contest with the series of staged portraits called Estonian Future Stars 2013 for the special edition of cultural supplement of Eesti Ekspress.
One of the first truly independent (of the Soviet ruling clique influences) newspapers, it was set up in 1991 after a mass exodus of staff from Eesti Ekspress after its Soviet parent company, Cross Development FSP, fired Hans H. Luik.
The selection committee consisted of Owe Petersell (Radio Elmar), Toomas Puna (Radio Sky Plus), Erik Morna (Radio 2), Iiris Vesik (musician), Valner Valme (music journalist from Postimees), Siim Nestor (music journalist from Eesti Ekspress), Henry Kõrvits (musician), Olavi Paide (producer from production company RUUT), Koit Raudsepp (Radio 2), Ingrid Kohtla (ETV).
In his self-inflicted exile in Tallinn the author has been depicting Estonians weekly in the national media, first with a column in Eesti Ekspress and currently in the main Estonian daily newspaper Postimees.
