La Jolla

The Museum of Contemporary Art, founded in 1941, is located just above the waterfront in what was originally the 1915 residence of philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps.

In 1896 journalist and publisher Ellen Browning Scripps settled in La Jolla, where she lived for the last 35 years of her life.


John Cole's Book Shop

The cottage had housed Ellen Browning Scripps' half-sister Virginia, and La Jolla Country Day School, prior to becoming the location of John Cole's Book Shop.

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

The museum was originally the 1915 residence of philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, designed by the noted architect Irving Gill.
