From 1934-1938, Reinhardt served as an instructor with Pennsylvania National Guard and in 1938, he was transferred to Washington, D.C., as the executive officer of the Washington Provisional Brigade.

On April 25, 1945, elements of the division reached the Elbe and became the first American unit to contact the Russian Army.

The original line-up for Captain Beyond were singer Rod Evans (ex-Deep Purple), drummer Bobby Caldwell (ex-Johnny Winter), guitarist Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt (ex-Iron Butterfly), bassist Lee Dorman (ex-Iron Butterfly) and keyboardist Lewie Gold.
He served as a law clerk for Judge Stephen R. Reinhardt of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, from 1994 to 1995, and for Justice John Paul Stevens of the United States Supreme Court from 1995 to 1996.
