After the destruction of Ampurias, Castellón became the county seat, with the transfer of the Counts of Ampurias to the villa.

Battle of Castellón

Having crept his force up along the right bank of the Fluvià and set up headquarters at La Armentera, a village near the river's mouth on the Mediterranean Sea, General Lazán prepared a coup de main against the French battalion installed atop Castelló d'Empúries.

Empúries

Situated as it was on the coastal commercial route between Massalia (Marseille) and Tartessos in the far south of Hispania, the city developed into a large economic and commercial centre as well as being the largest Greek colony in the Iberian Peninsula.

As archaeologist she has taught several technical courses in Empuries and with international Franco-Spanish teams has excavated at sites of scientific importance as the oriental palace of Cancho Roano, (Zalamea de la Serena, Badajoz, Spain) or the Gallo-Roman town of Bibracte (Mount-Beuvary, Nièvre, France ), and in numerous sites of different periods and types of Spain, Catalonia (Ullastret, Ampurias ...) and Europe (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Bourges, Bordighera, Liguria ...).

History of Catalan

By the 9th century, the Catalan language had developed from Vulgar Latin on both sides of the eastern end of the Pyrenees mountains and valleys (counties of Rosselló, Empúries, Besalú, Cerdanya, Urgell, Pallars and Ribagorça), as well as the territories of the Roman province and later archdiocese of Tarraconensis to the south.

Frederick sent Berenguer Estanyol d'Empúries to act as Manfred's vicar general and Deslaur stepped down from his post as leader of the Company and duke of Athens, retiring to his castle at Salona, which he either escheated, or he was forced to relinquish, to Alfonso Fadrique around 1320.

Roman conquest of Hispania

Setting off from Massalia (Marseille) they founded the cities of Emporion (Ampurias) and Rhode (Roses), although at the time they had already spread throughout the coastal commercial centers of the region without establishing a permanent presence.

Roses, Girona

It seems more probable, however, that it was founded in the 5th century BC by Greeks from Massalia (Marseilles), perhaps with an admixture of colonists from neighbouring Emporion (today's Empúries).
